Low-melting phosphate glasses as flame-retardant synergists to epoxy: Barrier effects vs flame retardancy

نویسندگان

چکیده

In this research, low-melting phosphate (LMP) glasses (G1, G2, G3) were employed as green flame-retardant synergist additives in epoxy (EP)/ammonium polyphosphate (APP) composite. To investigate their performance additives, comprehensive fire tests and characterizations carried out, including limiting oxygen index test, UL-94 vertical burning cone calorimeter real-time temperature detection, X-ray microtomography, char residue strength analysis. A prominent improvement of properties was observed EP composites containing LMP glasses. EP/9%APP/1%G1 reached V-0 rating test showed a decreased peak heat release rate by around 40% over EP/10%APP the test. It found that mainly physical barrier effect condensed phase flame retardancy. Interestingly, via simulating different combustion temperatures, reveal performance. The mechanism further elucidated as: match between glass phase-transition range contributed to optimized performances. This result provided enlightenment for design application toward improving polymer composites.

Flame Retardant Luffa Fiber Reinforced Composites with Epoxy Resin Matrices

In current years composites have concerned considerable importance as a potential operational material. Low cost, light weights, high specific modulus, renewability, and biodegradability are the most basic & common attractive features of composites that make them useful for industrial applications. Luffacylindrical locally called as “sponge-gourd” is one such natural resource whose potential as...

Performance of Flame Retardant Wool Fabric Grafted with Vinyl Phosphate

In this paper, a flame retardant dimethyl-2-(methacryloyloxyethyl) phosphate (DMMEP) was applied to wool fabrics by the graft copolymerization technique initiated with potassium persulfate (KPS) in water media. FTIR and SEM testing were used to explore the grafting evidence on the fiber surface, the SEM results show chemical deposition on the wool fiber surface and the scales could not be seen ...

Epoxy-based Flame Retardant Nanocomposite Coatings: Comparison Between Functions of Expandable Graphite and Halloysite Nanotubes

Whis work presents a study on the flammability of epoxy coatings containing two types of nano-scale fillers as potential flame retardants: expandable graphite (EG) and halloysite nanotubes (HNTs). Both nanocomposites are prepared by incorporation of the same amount of nanofiller into the epoxy resin for the sake of comparison. Fire retardant nanocomposite coatings are cured through a two-stage ...

Graphene phosphonic acid as an efficient flame retardant.

We report the preparation of graphene phosphonic acid (GPA) via a simple and versatile method and its use as an efficient flame retardant. In order to covalently attach phosphorus to the edges of graphene nanoplatelets, graphite was ball-milled with red phosphorus. The cleavage of graphitic C-C bonds during mechanochemical ball-milling generates reactive carbon species, which react with phospho...

Multigenerational Effects of the Flame Retardant Tris (2-butoxyethyl) Phosphate (tboep) in Daphnia Magna

Introduction Tris (2-butoxyethyl) phosphate (TBOEP) is a non-halogenated alternative organophosphorus flame retardant (OPFR) used as a substitute for phased-out brominated flamed retardants (BFRs). Because of its high production volume and its use in a broad range of applications, this chemical is one of the predominant OPFRs found in the environment and it has been detected in air, water and b...
